What is Complex Care?
People with complex care needs (also known as long term or continuing healthcare) typically have significant and on-going healthcare needs resulting from chronic illness, disabilities or following hospital treatment. This section of the population often has higher hospitalisation rate relative to the rest of the population, yet despite high service use people with complex needs often experience worsening outcomes.
When someone requires complex medical care, most people usually assume that this can be provided either in a hospital or care home setting. However, there is a growing number of people choosing to receive this care from the comfort of their own homes with care being provided by specialist home care provider.
At 3 Angels Complex Care we care for adults and children with some of the most complex needs, who would usually be placed in a hospital or care home facility if not receiving our care. This allows them to stay at home in a familiar setting and within the community, which has been seen to lead to improved outcomes and reduces hospitalisation rates..
Complex Care Assessments
Some people with long term complex health needs may qualify to receive their care outside a hospital setting arranged and funded by the NHS. This is called NHS continuing healthcare. To be eligible for continuing healthcare you must be assessed by the multidisciplinary team, where all your care needs will be assessed and a decision will be made whether you qualify.
For those, who are not eligible for NHS continuing healthcare, families will be encouraged to seek funding through their local authority.
Caring for Complex Conditions
Our nurse-led teams are expertly trained and experienced to offer personalised care to children and adults living with complex and high acuity needs, as a result of a range of conditions, illnesses and disabilities including but not limited to:

- Learning Disability and autism
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Neuro-disability – including Epilepsy, Parkinson’s and Huntington’s disease
- Palliative (End of life) Care
- Post-operative healthcare
- Respiratory conditions – including COPD
Our nurse-led care team is highly trained to perform specialist techniques such as Bowel care, Stoma care, Ventilator care, Tracheostomy care, Enteral/PEG feeding, Gastrostomy feeding, Nasopharyngeal suctioning and oral suctioning.
